I was hoping for some "success" (in the popular consciousness) that I
and other leftists also see as sort of okay. The GI Bill seems like a
case of government benevolence and competence (though it was largely a
result of the GI's strikes after WW2 and the memories of the problems
arising from the "forgotten man" after WW1).

here's a possible one: has the cleaning up of Lake Erie been successful?
