My impression is that people who tell pollsters that they're going to vote
Democratic genuinely intend to do so, but most of them want to vote in hopes
of minimizing harm that might be done to them rather than voting for someone
they think is actually going to do something for them.  This probably makes
it easier for them to blow off voting if there's a line or bad weather or a
last minute scandal about altar boys and nuclear bombs.

In Ohio, areas that are expected to be Democratic also tend to have fewer
machines and longer lines.
