Michael I read the other replies, but even before doing so, the immediate image that came to me was a cartoon.
A black-and-white cartoon of a thief with a huge bag on his back - the person and bag all in black, tip-toeing (I picture the character from the Spy vs Spy in the Mad Magazine comics) away towards stairs leading to underground vault where the loot is kept. Above the entrance, sign saying something about Private Club. On a smaller scale, row of people (woman with a pram, old man with a cane, rural farm worker with a pitchfork) running after him shouting "Stop, thief". At the end of the row, a law enforcement agent turning looking away.
