does everything have to be relevant to political action?

Doyle;
depends upon the context doesn't it. The left focuses upon organizing
and big organizing needs to plan forward not remain strictly in the
here and now. I can't myself plan ahead to prepare for the next
downturn, I just have to keep my job, and hope layoffs don't plunge me
into the abyss, or perhaps that a labor movement comes along to help
protect my interests if not me in particular.
