relatedly, did Hitler arrange for the Reichstag fire? IT DOESN'T
MATTER. Hitler's boys exploited the event to the hilt to maximize
their power. And the rest is history.

similarly, it really doesn't matter if Bush/Rove/Cheney _et al_
arranged for 911. They exploited the event to the hilt to maximize
their power. Of course, the material (i.e., social-institutional)
conditions weren't right for them to pull a full-scale Hitler-type
take-over.

They did stuff like unleashing FBI types (in all agencies) who were
already chomping on the bit to stuff their version of lawnorder down
the throats of the US and the world (illegal arrests, wiretaps, etc.)
These types were also promoted to higher ranks, especially if they
were "loyal Bushies." New loyalists -- usually from Texas -- were
brought in. But they were also incompetent, as exemplified by Michael
"heckuva job" Brown. More importantly, here has been enough resistance
that they couldn't tighten the screws even harder to protect
themselves. It's quite possible that a bunch of these assholes will
now be fired (e.g. AG Gonzales).

I wish people would focus on _social forces_, the balance of political
power, the dynamics of capitalism and the like.

No doubt the government contributes to this. We can be certain that the 9-11
commission or any other such commission would fudge the truth to obscure certain
embarrassing information.

I cannot believe that Bush could have blown up the buildings. Not that I don't
think
him capable of worse, but I don't think of him and his crew of being that
capable.
After the attack, there was a flood of lies and misinformation; think WMD.

But as I said before, I don't think that anything will be served by going over
this
here on the list.

I confess that I do not believe that Oswald killed Kennedy by himself, but I
don't
think that much good will come of discussing that here.
