The below from Mr. Meyers is self-serving and ignorant. Mr.

have, and have not, accomplished historically, and that sell-outs

The "Night of the Living Dead" youth culture, weatherunderground
rerun endorsed by Mr. Meyers is about as relevant and
inciteful as Duncan's Olduvai Gorge theories. And at core,
just as thoroughly conservative, regressive, reactionary.
First of all, and Jim should also note, I'm not endorsing anything...
I just noted, and refuse to vilify those actions. Even if I don't
agree, I understand.
Arrogant?
OK. Sure.... If you say so. I call it 'strident'.
Ignorant?
Opinions are like a-holes, everyone's got one...
What 'everyone' doesn't have is my personal life experiences from
whence my opinions derive. Some do. But either way, I did not derive
them by, at least intentionally, *ignoring* anything.
As to unions, I know what they've accomplished historically.
But that was then, and what I'm describing is now.
"Americans no longer fight to keep their shores safe,
Just to keep the jobs going in the arms making workplace.
Then they pretend to be gripped by some sort of political reflex,
But all they're doing is paying dues to the Military Industrial Complex.
The Military and the Monetary,
The Military and the Monetary,
The Military and the Monetary.
The Military and the Monetary,
get together whenever they think its necessary,
They turn our brothers and sisters into mercenaries,
they are turning the planet into a cemetery."
"...gotta work for peace, cause peace ain't comin' this way."
--Gil Scott Heron
I'll reiterate: "Let me know when they care about the Iraqis killed by
the weapons
systems they build.".
...at one time, long, long ago, they did... some remnants of that
phase of union organizing actually managed to survive into the 60s,
but not much. In New York, if I remember correctly, the Meat Cutter's
union was active in the anti-war movement early on, as were the West
Coast Longshoremen.
The maritime unions STILL have a vested interest, due to the
collateral damage potential for ship hands in times of war on
(ostensibly) unarmed merchant ships, as displayed by their presence a
few years back as observers at an anti-arms shipping demonstration in
Oakland where a number of them received wounds from rubber bullets and
instigated an investigation of the Oakland PD's actions.
I'm talking about corrupted organizations called 'unions' leading
their people down some rosy, untenable path to self-benefit while the
rest of the world burns.
Until the moment that 'unions' such as the IAMAW understand their
culpability in the continuation of global hegemony/slaughter for their
own benefit, and at the expense of others, often including their own
country's people, they are part of the PROBLEM, not part of the
SOLUTION.
