Just got word from an Unrepentant Marxist reader based in Dubai that my
blog entry on the cable show "Flipping Out" was cited in "Property
Weekly", a local magazine. Apparently, flipping real estate is a big
thing in Dubai as well.

Flipping Houses in Dubai
By Mark Beachill

Throughout the world, there exists a perception that original quality
television is being swamped by home makeover and property-based light
entertainment. Satellite and cable TV means that UK daytime stables such
as Homes Under the Hammer are now shown in Eastern Europe and beyond.

Often such programmes lack reality: as the class book of critical essays
asked, 'How real is reality TV?'

The US cultural critic Lous Proyect writes of a Bravo cable network show
called Flipping Out. Since episodes were uploaded onto the internet, you
can see it too.

The protagonist is Jeff Lewis, a self-absorbed figure who comes across
as a reject from TV's Curb Your Enthusiasm, forever causing chaos with
his petty preoccupations. Lewis is a Los Angeles real estate businessman
who would like to make his millions by 'flipping houses'.
