Like in the U.S., god is irrelevant in Iranian politics. The populace there (as here) is above and beyond that. More importantly, Ahmadinejad betrayed the mandate of those who elected him, the rural and urban poor majority in Iran, a crowd well known for their tolerance toward gays. So now he's fair game. If it weren't for Ahmadinejad, Iran would be aeons ahead of Chelsea or Greenwich Village.
