(Caracas, 26-09-07/Prensa-MPPAT). - Thanks to the efforts made by the Bolivariano Government, in its eagerness to guarantee the nourishing security of the Venezuelans, the country has experienced a remarkable increase in the food production from the year 1998 - in which 10 million tons took place until this year 2007 in which it is considered to arrive at a production of 21 million tons, according to indicated minister of the Popular Power for Agriculture and Tierras, Elías Jaua.

The holder of the agricultural portfolio explained that the scientific policies of eradication of the large estate, construction of great infrastructure works for the irrigation, investments for the improvement of the seeds and the health and inocuidad of foods, combined to the active participation of the producers in the “popular explosion in the field”, is the factors that have determined east increase of the production that it has like only objective to feed the Venezuelans.

Minister Jaua indicated that the policies of the Government have allowed to obtain the total white maize flour self-supplying and an increase of the yellow maize production. In fact, the minister emphasized that in the present harvest an increase in the maize production has been experienced by hectares, of 3 thousand 300 kilos that were extracted in 2006 to the 4 thousand 500 kilos that are being collected at the moment.

Similarly, the minister emphasized the political-ideological character of the maize harvest for the American towns and Venezuela, mainly after the pretension of the Government of the United States to produce this food for his use like fuel. On the matter, he insisted on which our country will become a trench in defense of the maize like essential food of the towns of Latin America and for that reason Encuentro has been organized Latin American We are of Maize that will be carried out in Caracas from this Thursday 27 to Sunday 30 of September.

As far as the proposal to include in the coming constitutional reform the prohibition of the large estate, the minister was emphatic in affirming that this practical one is a crime “against the humanity of the Venezuelan farmers” then, besides to confiscate the earth who can be used for the food production, is used for semi slavery of the producers, the illicit operation of the indigenous towns and other activities. For those reasons one was trusted that the Venezuelan town will massively support the raised reform.
