My guess is he is psychologically projecting his own "power-hungry
authoritarian" (read 'opportunistic, else why mention daddy at all)
tendencies on Chavez.

...And since when are Marxism & egalitarian socialism in any way
related in modern western political thought?

In America, they tend to have no connection whatsoever, with a number
of dialogs I've observed on Marxist lists immediately coming to mind
