NEW YORK, Jan 22 -- New York will be the venue this spring for a series of spectacular cultural and cuisine shows from Kelantan, presenting what the Malaysian community in and around New York describes as a "feast for the eyes and a gourmet's delight".
Tengku Mohamed Faziharudeen Tengku Feissal, private secretary to the Sultan of Kelantan and Kelantan financial officer Datuk Haji Shkori Mohamed, are here on a five-day visit to coordinate the programme and oversee locations for the cultural bonanza. Tengku Faziharudeen told Bernama here that the Sultan and Raja Perempuan of Kelantan and their children would visit New York to inaugurate the programme. The programme will kick off with the Malaysian-Kelantan cultural show on April 20, followed by the launch on April 24 of the Malaysian- Kelantan Food Festival and a fashion show choreographed by designer Zang Toi, highlighting the songket, for which Kelantan is famous. The food festival at the Delegations' Dining Room at the United Nations building will be on daily from 11am to 2pm until May 5. Tengku Faziharudeen said Kelantan was sending a large contingent of artistes and specialists, including 20 dancers and five chefs, for the events which are expected to attract the international creme de la creme. The promotions were aimed at providing visibility to Kelantan on the international circuit and elevating the state globally, he added. He said Kelantan, like all the other states in Malaysia, wanted to tap the potential in the tourism sector and profile itself as a venue for MICE (Meetings, Incentives, Conferences, Exhibitions) activities. He said although the Kelantan airport did not have any regional or international flight connections, it offered five daily flights to Kuala Lumpur which provided easy connections to airports in the region and the world.//Bernama
