I think we're in agreement here.  My point was much the same as yours:
we care about 1/2p performance, and we want solutions that scale on the
high end too.

Agreed.  Linux is giving us good competition in this area.  As we
improve our performance, they're also pushing performance improvements
in their code.  It means more fun for everyone. :P
