Oops.  I put it on the back burner until I could get a chance to test it
out.  Such a chance never arose.  I was refraining from responding to you
until I had something constructive to say.  Unfortunately with nothing
to say this could have been interpreted as non-acknowledgement of the
message.  I will try to test it out "real soon now" (tm)

The documentation that comes with CGI would be a good place to look.
Try running:

     perldoc CGI

and see if anything is mentioned there.  Also, Lincoln keeps his web page
posted with updates, READMEs, Changes files and I think that there is a 
mailing list for CGI users and developers.  You might want to explore
those avenues for the time being and don't hesitate to mention that your
unix variant is an EBCDIC platform and what version of perl you are
running.
