If I were to download the final release of 5.6.1, build it, and ship it out
with our OS/390 2.10 deployment, would this be a wise move in light of the
text in the 5.6.1 announcement? Earlier you mentioned that EBCDIC support
in 5.6.1 was similar to that in 5.5.3...so I shouldn't be any worse off,
right?

As for dynamic loading...I tried to build it with a new (empty) build
environment and it failed miserably. Right off in make I received
LIBPATH=/home/sc90/ppkycyh/perl-5.6.1:/lib:/usr/lib:. c89 -Wl,EDIT=NO
-L/usr/loc
al/lib -o miniperl \
miniperlmain.o opmini.o libperl.x -lm -lc
IEW2689W 4C40 DEFINITION SIDE FILE IS NOT DEFINED.
FSUM3065 The LINKEDIT step ended with return code 4.
which may not be fatal, however, many, many tests failed including almost
every single op test. We were really looking forward to the dynaloader.
We may try building 5.6.1 on our OS/390 2.8 system to see if we can get a
working Perl 5.6.1 with some dynamic loader support.
Thanks for the info,
