I disagree. IMHO If you have C++ skills, you should
bypass CGI and head straight on to mod_perl using
"method handlers". These are Object oriented classes
that handle web requests.
I agree with you. However, I didn't get a sense of his C++ skills, how much of a perl understanding he has, how much time he wanted to invest in this project, etc. Since he is considering whether to learn PHP or use his current Perl skills, then whipping up a simple page with CGI.pm is the easiest route. He can then add mod_perl and Apache::Registry to get additional speed. If he wants to build a large and robust site, then he should consider something other than CGI.pm (and PHP for that matter).
