RE: The ALT+F+S Issue in Komodo
I could use CTRL+S just fine so this problem is insignificant, but in case
anyone is interested I did some more testing. The speed of the machine or
the typist doesn't matter. The ALT+F+S problem occurs when you do not
release the ALT key to hit S.
Here is how to reproduce the problem at any speed:
ALT down
F down
F up
S down
S up
ALT up
This sequence doesn't save the file in Komodo even when I use a slow
machine and type it slowly. Other windows applications that I have save
the file.
This key sequence works in Komodo and other windows apps:
ALT down
F down
F up
ALT up
S down
S up

PS. Fernando, stop implying that I'm working on a busted hoopty. I happen
to have a few machines that are faster than your suped up PIII.

Well, I tried it as fast as I could and it worked... Of course, having a
PIII @ 1.1 GHz with 512 MB of RAM must help a bit as Komodo is a real
memory hog...
You can get used to CTRL-S: just one keystroke and also works for most
windows apps... :)
That or a faster machine... :)
I haven't tried editpad, and don't think I'll ever do: I use UltraEdit
for most of my "non-perl" editing, and Komodo for editing/debugging my
perl scripts. Eventually, I'll make the switch to Open Perl IDE or maybe
not, because I have a machine fast enough for Komodo and I really like
some of it's features, like real-time background syntax checking. Only
time will tell on this one...
So, this question should actually be split in two:
- 1: What's your favorite Perl IDE/Editor for an old machine?
- 2: What's your favorite Perl IDE/Editor for a newer, faster machine?
:)
Bye,
Fernando Madruga
