I admit to being stressed this week (due to a pending office move). I
apologize for calling you a moron :-).

It was a text/plain attachment. If your MTA (or MUA) does not know
the difference between a MIME type and a file extension, then it is
broken and you should get rid of it.

True, sort of. The header of the autoreply was:
From: "GroupShield for Exchange (UNIT800)" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]>
Subject: ALERT - GroupShield ticket number OA304_1035300252_UNIT800_3 was
generated
To: "'Patrick J. LoPresti'" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]>,
"'[EMAIL PROTECTED]'"
<[EMAIL PROTECTED]>
Note the "To" line, which sure looks like it was sent to the whole
list. In fact, I suspect it was, but the message did not go through
because "[EMAIL PROTECTED]" is not a subscriber.
Regardless, the autoresponder is broken. All I did was "follow up"; I
did not address my response by hand.

Not only does it allow such distribution, but the archive separates
the attachments into nice clickable links:

Point taken.
Nevertheless, you should fix your MTA. Filtering text/plain
attachments is just silly, and putting extra recipients in the "To"
line is broken.
