Try Net::Whois::Raw or Net::XWhois. I have experience with neither, but a
quick look on search.cpan.org didn't give me much confidence in Net::Whois
(it seems to be tied to the original whois server whois.internic.net, which
doesn't exist any more as such).
Take a quick look at the documentation pages:
http://search.cpan.org/doc/VIPUL/Net-XWhois-0.72/XWhois.pm and
http://search.cpan.org/doc/SCHOP/Net-Whois-Raw-0.07/Raw.pm
and see which one looks more like what you need.

If you're running on Unix, you could try using its whois from backticks, but
you need to know the registrar. If you're only registering .com .net .org,
then asking whois.crsnic.net or whois.internic.net will tell you which whois
server is really responsible. If you want country TLDs, you'll probably need
a table, or else use a whois proxy such as whois.geektools.com or
whois.thur.de .
Cheers,
Philip
