RegExp question

hi, i have the following easy regexp:

/^exampl(.*)$/


but for ".*" I want only match the 0 - 4 character, see:

exampl
examplX
examplXX
examplXXX
examplXXXX


and not more ! how can I realise it in the regexp string ?
