I'm surprised by the segfaults you're seeing...
I've objects which have magic, which in turn have their own magic and so own. So it could be that there is a bug elsewhere in cloning. I just want to remove that weakened has hack first, to simplify the debug and having less potential bug positions.

But you're forcing threaded mod_perl2 users to have to use blead this way, or?
as Nicholas suggests 5.8.8 may be. Do I have a choice? Do they have a choice? Once this new method is working, if I have it working w/o segfaults. I may try to support older CLONE as well.
