Thank you Martin, and everyone else. We've had several other conversations, and I believe this boils down to just a natural pessimist. She wants to see perl continue to be a widely adopted successful language, and while she is willing to do whatever work it takes to learn, she doesn't have similar faith in the rest of the world.
It's just her nature, and I should ignore it. (Can we let Damian out of the corner yet? :) -- NEVER swerve to hit a lawyer riding a bicycle -- it might be your bicycle.
