I'd love to do that, but Simon is (understandably) hesitant to
have non-bugfix commits right now. I'm content to wait (hoping
it won't be too hard to keep the patch up to date with any other
changes people put in to fix bugs pre-0.0.2), but very happy to
commit if that turns out to be OK.

I'm not worried about it breaking stuff here, since I've tested
it here, but I would be uncomfortable until I'd gotten some
success reports on other core platforms. I don't want to be the
guy who delays 0.0.2 by committing some code with portability
problems on one ore more of the core platforms.
