i wasn't claiming that. a short script using $& would be fine where you
don't care about the copy penalty. but $& has been slammed so often that
i never think about using it even when it would be useful, i just make
explicit grabs. so by that cultural criterium (however off base it is)
scripts using $& are downgraded in my eye. it is just a habit of
thinking that $& anywhere is bad.
