There is another entirely more practical reason for keeping perl6
perl5-ish.  Some pretty aggressive timescales have been set for the
production of perl6 (anyone who thinks they are not aggressive should
remember the frequency of recent perl5 releases), and a new language
design isn't practical in the limited time available.  Also, the current
core of perl5 porters have an instinctive feeling for what constitutes
correct or incorrect perl behaviour.  A new language would render this
innate folk knowledge obsolete - the importance of this knowledge in the
upcoming development process should not be underestimated.
