We should approach this from the perspective that $fh is an iterator, so the general problem is "how do we navigate a random-access iterator?".
I have a feeling that the "correct" semantics are closer to: $fh = $fh.file.end - 10 though the short form ($fh = $fh.end - 10) is a reasonable shortcut.
