On what platform do you want to *manipulate* the Excel sheet (as opposed to using MS Excel itself to eventually *open* it)? If it is on WinNT/2000/xp/Vista/7 you can use Win32::OLE. With it you can read, change and write complete spreadsheets, including the creation of Formulas, conditional formatting and what not!
