Congratulations Craig!

I'll volunteer to get the 2.4.3 release out of the door. As
I work through the process I'll try to document the steps in
a checklist for future reference.

Here is the release to-do list I have so far. I'll get
started on a draft of the release notes and known problems
list. Please feel free to reply with corrected order,
additions/mods to the to-do list, and/or other suggestions.
I'm going to start by taking the current CVS snapshot as the
2.4.3 roll-up candidate.

I'll keep posting as I work through the list.

Thanks in advance for any help required!

===================
PDL release process
===================

- update release notes, known_problems

  => I'll draft up these from the current Changes file

  => with the Known_problems, I'm not sure what has been
  => fixed and what not, here are the outstanding items:

  [1] Modern versions of MakeMaker (e.g. 6.22) fail to compile PDL
  => I don't know.

  [2] FFTW 3.0.1 is now out but is not supported (yet).
  => Keep this for 2.4.3

  [3] PDL::Graphics::TriD doesn't seem to link correctly on the Mac
  => We've made a lot of changes with TriD, has this been retested?

  [4] t/fits.t test and PDL::IO::FITS module can show problems
  when used with old versions of the Astro::FITS::Header module.
  => I don't know

- update version (mark beta)
  editing the version number in PDL.pm.PL (if I recall correctly)
  => aren't there specifics on the version number format and such
  => to work with CPAN?

- tagging CVS.
  => I'm a CVS user by man page at the moment so more explicit
  => instructions on this would help

- make test, make dist, make test with the freshly made dist

- announce to list

- let everyone make test on different platforms

- update version (mark final)

- make test, make dist, make test with freshly made dist

- check in

- issue new release in SF
  => How does this happen?

- submit to CPAN
  => Doesn't this need to be done by the owner of the PDL module
  => on CPAN. I know when I was trying to test the cpan> build
  => with the cvs version I had problem entering the module into
  => my local database for testing

- submit to /.
