Hi Simon: version 0.18 is pretty old--I'm not surprised that is
does not install.
More recent versions of PDL come with PDL-Graphics-PLplot as part of the
distribution.
Also, I've just uploaded my most recent PDL-Graphics-PLplot (version 0.30)
to PAUSE--it should be available on CPAN in a few minutes.
This version is *slightly* more up-to-date than the one contained in the
most recent PDL (2.4.3).

so instead i tried to install from the download directory (
/usr/share/.cpan/build/PDL-Graphics-PLplot-0.18) using the instructions in
the README file.
I managed to perl Makefile.PL ok after adding correct include paths
but makeblows up with
make: *** [PLplot.o] Error 1
but i don't get any reported errors to work with.
I have attached the full output from the build.
I am running SuSE 10.1 on a dual x86_64 system
if you have any suggestions about what to look for, it would be greatly
appreciated.
