To avoid any confusion: Installing
1. PGPLOT is the same as choosing pgplot5 (or whatever version in your Ubuntu distro) from Synaptic, and 2. PGPLOT Perl module is the same as choosing pgperl (or Ubuntus Perl interface to the pgplot plotting libray) from Synaptic. I'm not sure what Ubuntu distro you're running, but this works at least for the older Ubuntu Breezy distro.
