Greetings,
I experiencing some difficulty installing PDL on my Intel Macbook
running Leopard 10.5.6 with gcc 4.0.1 (Apple Inc. build 5490) and Perl
5.88 built for darwin-2level.
First, I tried to install using cpan. I kept on getting the following error
-----
t/aaa_load..................ok
t/argtest...................ok
t/autoload..................ok 1/3
# Failed test 'Check tilde expansion (/Users/punkish from 'echo ~')'
# at t/autoload.t line 43.
# got: '/Users/punkish'
# expected: '/var/root'
t/autoload..................NOK 3/3# Looks like you failed 1 test of 3.
t/autoload..................dubious
Test returned status 1 (wstat 256, 0x100)

t/bad.......................ok
3/78 skipped: various reasons

After some chatter on perlmonks chatterbok, I decided to force install
and PDL did work. But, I wanted to do it the right way so decided to
redo it.
I also decided to install as many of the supporting libraries as I
could, and then install from the PDL source instead of via cpan.
I am getting the following errors
-----
WARNING: Unknown cpu type i386! Not setting $hdf_defs. (This may not
be a bad thing)
Final $hdf_defs flags: ''
Cannot find hdf library, libdf.a.

Yes, HDF is there.

</code>
-----
And, finally, when I do make, it croaks with
-----
_XS_PDL_plgriddata in PLplot.o
ld: symbol(s) not found
collect2: ld returned 1 exit status
make[2]: *** [../../blib/arch/auto/PDL/Graphics/PLplot/PLplot.bundle] Error 1
make[1]: *** [subdirs] Error 2
make: *** [subdirs] Error 2
-----
I am really eager to start playing with PDL, so any help I can get in
installing this and moving on would be greatly appreciated.
