Hi John, Basically the same recomendation as Derek, do not recompile since it can be a bit complicated. Just follow the instructions in
http://wiki.jach.hawaii.edu/pdl_wiki-bin/wiki/Installing_PDL_the_quick_and_easy_way and you should be up and running in no time.
