Thanks for looking into this!

I did the usual incantation
perl Makefile.PL
make
make test

which gave the error in my previous message.

Then I tried to go into the Real subdir and did
perl Makefile.PL
make
sudo make install

When I tried to use gsvdd as in the example, I get

/usr/bin/perl: symbol lookup error: /usr/lib/atlas/liblapack.so.3gf:
undefined symbol: _gfortran_pow_r8_i4
