Hello, Unlike most open source projects, PDL has very good documentation. The *problem* is that it is very hard to find the good stuff. I would like to suggest a few easy changes:
1) On the front page, the 'Documentation' link should point here: http://pdl.sourceforge.net/PDLdocs/Guide.html This is an excellent guide to all the PDL documentation. Forget about the proposal I wrote earlier - this page is better. 2) Delete this page: http://pdl.sourceforge.net/PDLdocs/Intro.html The problem is that this page *LOOKS* like it's supposed to be the starting place, and it's not. It only has a few links. This page actively *prevents* people people from finding the far more useful PDL::Guide page. 3) Modify the wiki front page: http://sourceforge.net/apps/mediawiki/pdl/index.php?title=Main_Page This page needs a lot of revision, but at a bare minimum, the link that says "HTML version of PDL documentation" should point to the PDL Guide, rather than the PDL Index. This issue is similar to #2. If you go to the wiki and click on "HTML version of PDL documentation", you'll think that this is the starting point for documentation. I certainly did. Yesterday I was saying to my wife "See? PDL has good docs, but they don't organize it. This page is just alphabetical!". So, if you just make that wiki link point to the PDL Guide, and put that link right at the very top of the wiki page, that will really help users arrive at the right place quickly. With these three, small, easy changes, the PDL documentation will be far more accessible and find-able for new users. Cheers, Daniel. _______________________________________________ Perldl mailing list [email protected] http://mailman.jach.hawaii.edu/mailman/listinfo/perldl
