Hmm, that is weird.  Well, I don't use GIF so don't know why you cannot change 
the size. What I personally do when creating bitmaps is that I tend to make ps 
files, then use ImageMagicks' convert routine to create nicely anti-aliased 
bitmaps - that can also be done all within Perl if you prefer.
