in the spirit of matt's scikarl packaging, i have been using the following
portfile to build and run PDL under the macports install of perl. i have
submitted it to macports as of january(!), but it hasn't been folded into their
release yet. will ping them shortly....

in the meantime, it's easy (and useful) to set up one's own local repository
for macports:

http://guide.macports.org/#development.local-repositories

i find this very useful for tracking what i do and what files go where and for
what package. i'm also attaching a portfile for p5-opengl which builds and
solves PDL's dependency, but doesn't quite work properly. haven't had the time
to figure out why since i never use the 3D stuff. OTOH, the plplot stuff works
because the macports maintainer figured out the build tricks for that.
