Fair enough, but, unfortunately, those instructions won't come from
me. I won't ever touch the system perl for reasons given earlier, so I
won't have any first hand notes for that process.

Unless you call /usr/local/ as non-standard, not a single install on
my MacBook was "non-standard." Not one. I am simply not sophisticated
enough to tinker with that. Every library was installed in the install
locations set by the make install command as set by the creator of the
library.... libs under /usr/local/lib, headers under
/usr/local/include, etc.
