Currently whichND does something legacy in array context (returns a
list of PDLs, each of which contains one component of all the vectors
found). Does anyone actually use that functionality any more? If
not, it makes sense to deprecate it (with an emitted warning) in the
current release, and then phase it out in the next point release. A
lot of bugs happen because of that historical wart...
