A few years ago, I wrote an RGB extension to PGPLOT that included the RGBI
method. I thought it would be simple to merge with the main distro. Shortly
after I e-mailed my extensions to TJP, he stopped answering my e-mail. PGPLOT
is old school where licensing is concerned: it is *not* Free (by the Gnu
definition) and may not be redistributed nor modified without written
permission from Caltech. For a while I was distributing patches instead, but
as versions diverged when 64 bit OSes became the norm (and everyone patched his
own version) I gave up supporting it.

I now recommend either Plplot (though I have not had mich success with it
others have) or Gnuplot (Dima Kogan and I have an in-development
PDL::Graphics::Gnuplot layer we can get you).
