There are a couple of isssues with gentoo and PDL.

First, th e official treee points to a 2.4.7 build. To get a later version, one has to enable portage overlays, and put the appropriate ebuild into the correct place (no big deal, but still ...).

Second, the whole TriD is a mess. OpenGL module will not install because it requires X11 access, which the build process usually does not have. Chris, is this strictly necessary?

Third, even if OpenGL is there, setting PGOL=>1 complains about rquiring OpgnGL Setting TriD=>1 and POGL=>0 still does not build it.

My ebuild-writing/sed/bash abilities is limited to simple cases and the dependenciy magic is stretching it, so there are a lot of hardcoded stuff

I can add a link on how to enable overlays and to the bug report with the new ebuild. I'm compileg the _994 stuff right now, and will update the bug report.

For the PDL-2.4.10 release, I think we could just
add a button on our Get PDL section of the web
site for gentoo and put the OS specific note there.

ALL PDL FOLKS - anybody up for trying to add a Gentoo section to the PDL

website?

This is just a matter of editing the code making the
current display and adding a gentoo button and
corresponding content. The relevant files are in
pdl-www/content and the directions for how to
test the change on the experimental web site are
on the wiki.

I added a radio button for Gentoo linux under
Get PDL->I am looking for...->The easiest possible install.
Please check the directions (excerpted from the wiki
page) and let me know if the PNG/PNM 16-bit warning
is correct or correct it yourself.

Thanks,
Chris
