Lisa - I am quite certain that this particular file is not associated with the Perl Data Language. We do use that file extension for some of our files, but I highly doubt that ValuSoft uses Perl and PDL. Even if ValuSoft used PDL, distributing the sorts of .pdl files that we use would not make any sense.
It sounds like you expect your .pdl file to be an image. This website<http://filext.com/file-extension/PDL>has a number of suggestions for other programs associated with the .pdl extension, notably the Print Shop program. I am not at all familiar with that program. Hopefully, "Your Complete Landscape & Garden Designer" probably mentions this in their help documentation or manual that came with the software. If it's not obvious from those sources of information, you ought to contact ValuSoft directly; they surely provided support for their software and should be glad to help you out. Good luck!
