Thanks Chris.

You're welcome.

I was localizing the input record separator - which ended up causing
problems when it was passed to the PDL::IO::MISC because it defaulted
to my main loop localized version - paragraph mode. I suppose I could
have suspected that since it would be in the same context, but
thought that it would have taken where I set it for the inner loop.
Wrong. So I removed the 'local $/' and replaced with '$/' and it
seems to work very well, at least in my small test program.

Would it make sense to ensure that for the PDL::IO:MISC localizes
$/="\n" Since that is what it expects to use?

I don't think so since rcols only cares about the columns
and not the lines. The problem you had with $/ is not
specific to rcols but could happen with any perl IO
routine. Hardwiring in "\n" would prevent any other
usage with $/.

BTW, your emails are coming in as one long line (see the
archives), could you possibly wrap them or insert manual
returns?

Cheers,
Chris
