As for pgplot/gnuplot in the early days of Prima
we tried to make a Prima-based graphic driver for one
of them, -- I can't remember details, but I do remember that
it was surprisingly easy to implement.

I've had on the back burner for some time the plan
to implement an OpenGL driver for PGPLOT and PLplot
that would allow one to work with framebuffers or
image buffers in memory/pdls.  With Prima as the
default PDL toolkit, it would make sense that the
interactive driver would be based on that.
