Sorry I have not been following the threads on Prima.

Is Prima ready for prime time? I recall some people complaining about
installation issues. True we have that for PGPLOT but at least we
have all the basic plotting already covered.

There are two issues here, the underlying Prima
GUI toolkit which is mature, installable via
CPAN, and featureful.

Then there is the PDL::Graphics::Prima by David
which I am proposing as a standard default
graphics for PDL. This is a new module but
between tester feedback and David and Dmitry
working out the various issues, it getting
pretty robust as far as installation and
operation. I.e., I have been able to install
it myself on win32 and cygwin platforms---not
something I've gotten working without hand
builds for PGPLOT or PLplot (ever).

Does the GUI look modern?

It looks Tk-ish to me but being a native perl
GUI, the fact that it is installable on *all*
PDL platforms (and supports OpenGL widgets for
3D display work) is the *huge* win.

At some point, we'll get Alien::XXX modules
for all the troublesome (as far as CPAN install)
C/C++ external libraries (PGPLOT, PLplot,
wxWidgets, GTk+, ...) which should enable
the more modern/slicker features of these
external libraries and GUI toolkits.

N.B. I thought that the Alien::XXX might have
lead to PLplot as the front runner for PDL
graphics but a champion/developer has not
yet appeared. I'm hoping that the Alien::Base
work by Joel will enable this option in the
future....
