The multi-million dollar, multiple-year funding will support faculty, graduate students and full-time research staff to provide critical assistance to manufacturing firms striving to maintain competitiveness in the continually evolving global manufacturing and distribution environment. This will be accomplished via research and development of enabling tools and methodologies in areas such as lean and agile manufacturing, re-configurable manufacturing and assembly systems, manufacturing logistics, supply chain engineering, electronics/micro-electronics manufacturing, advanced composites fabrication, and rapid prototyping & tooling. A typical financial package for a qualified graduate research assistant includes an annual stipend of $16,000-$18,000 plus a full annual tuition scholarship. All funded graduate assistants are expected to work on industrially-relevant research projects to advance the science and technology of manufacturing and to subsequently transfer such results to industry. Strong communication skills and solid course work in graduate and/or undergraduate industrial/manufacturing engineering are essential. However, individuals with degree(s) in mechanical, electrical, computer, and other engineering disciplines interested in advanced manufacturing careers are also encouraged to apply.
