On the subject of booklice...

I have heard different opinions about booklice. I have heard people say
they are more indicators of higher RH environments that can be unfavorable
to art, not necessarily damaging the art themselves. I have been told they
just scrape microscopic mold off surfaces (oftentimes paper/books), and
don't really "damage" the paper material. It's hard to know what to
believe online...
Can someone confirm or deny whether booklice actually damage objects?

Thanks!
Todd
