Fiona, Pic 1 looks like a wasp beetle, possibly Clytus arietis. If so, it lays eggs under the bark of recently fallen or dead trees. See https://www.ukbeetles.co.uk/clytus-arietis. Apparently, they could end up in products made from infested wood.
