That’s consistent with an elaterid (click beetle). Could be an errant invader from outside…. or it could have derived from wood (if you have recent accessions of wood).

We found this beetle while doing a routine herbarium IPM check. Typically we see cigarette and carpet beetles, this time around a much larger beetle was found. It looks suspiciously similar to a cigarette beetle, although a much longer body ~9-10mm in length. I presume it's a common beetle (southern CA), just not one we have seen in our collection recently. After closer inspection I wonder if it's a furniture beetle? Unfortunately, there were no (from what I can tell) antenne present when the beetle was found. Photo evidence attached! Thank you for your help :) Cheers, Erin -- Erin Berkowitz Herbarium Workroom Manager/ Curatorial Assistant II RSA-POM Herbarium California Botanic Garden 1500 North College Avenue Claremont, California 91711 909.625.8767 ext. 233<tel:%28909%29%20625-8767> -- You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups "MuseumPests" group.
