Thanks Jane, I've been mulling diatomaceous earth in the back of my mind, but I couldn't think of an application I was totally happy with. That's an interesting idea I'd like to test out!

That's a good idea to place some monitors in the cabinet before placing the specimens back in. How long do you think they'd need to be there? We have another week I think before the specimens are decontaminated and can be put back in their cabinet. I guess that might catch any adults that are still lurking in the cabinet? The cabinets aren't big. There are too many specimens to be able to bag them before we put them back, unfortunately. We just started cabinet inspections (as I detailed in my IPM plan 😀) and they are very interesting! But a bit disturbing too - I certainly wasn't expecting to find dermestid evidence so quickly! And possibly it's old, nothing was alive that we saw. I got a couple museum mini vacs that can be used to quickly clean trays of dust and pieces of fluff etc while we're inspecting, so I hope that next year the inspections are easier (without any old evidence of pests around to confuse us). Your plan sounds just fine. Try to get into as many crevices as possible. Also, once you have finished can you place some monitors in the cabinet before reintegrating your yummy study skins? It is understandable if you do not have the time. On other thought is to isolate the specimens in plastic bags for the time being – until you are more confident that the infestation is under control Gretchen From: pestlist@googlegroups.com <pestlist@googlegroups.com> On Behalf Of Haff, Tonya (NCMI, Crace) Sent: Thursday, December 9, 2021 10:04 PM To: pestlist@googlegroups.com Subject: * [PestList] Cleaning cabinets Hello all, I have a cabinet that I need to clean to make sure there are no pest eggs, etc, left inside that could reinfest future items put back in the cabinet. I can't just freeze the entire cabinet, and there are weird ledges and corners in the back of it that are difficult to thoroughly reach. I intend to vacuum it all over the interior and to spray and wipe the interior with 70% EtOH. Are there other measures that anyone here would recommend for making sure the cabinet is effectively decontaminated before returning specimens (study skins, super yummy) back to the cabinet? Thanks!
