I once worked in a historic house museum, in which one of the interpretive
staff decided to store a bag of flour in their locked file cabinet. It took
us forever to find out where the flour beetles were coming from. There were a
lot……

So yes….it all depends on what’s IN the museum…. 😊

Thanks again,

If there are their types of food items in the exhibits (artwork of edible
items) or snacks brought and forgotten by visitors or employees or in (pest)
rodent food caches, then could be a typical museum pest.

Thank you, Jody and Louis. So… not a typical “museum pest” species.

Oryzaephilus species, so either O. surinamensis or O. mercator.

Hello—I’d like to ask for help id-ing these beetles. We found them (long dead)
behind the glass of a framed poster. The poster is currently isolated.
Location is Sacramento, CA. The scale increments on the ruler are millimeters.

Thank you!

Nancy
