Hallo David,
thank you so much, this helps a lot. Our museum is indeed located near a major
park with little streams. We also did see an increase in mites over the last
few months, so this makes a lot of sense.

Hello Stella

More likely Omalium rivulare, a small, brown rove beetle found across Europe,
including the Munich region. It belongs to the beetle family Staphylinidae,
which are known for having very short wing covers (called elytra) that leave
most of their abdomen exposed. They live in damp areas such as under rotting
leaves, decaying fungi, wood, compost, and near water edges. They are
predators. They hunt tiny insects and mites in decaying matter.

Open to suggestions from others.

David

Hello fellow Pestlisters,
We recently had a new addition to our “beetle collection” in our sticky traps.
Can anyone identify this beetle? When looking through Coleonet.de to identify
the specimen, I landed on Xylodromus sp., but I’m not sure if this is correct.
Also: Is it a threat for museum objects of any kind? Our museum is located in
Munich (southeast Bavaria, Germany), but we also had a lot of exchange with
Italy lately and I’m not sure if it might be a tourist, that came along with
the exhibits.

Thank you all for your help.

Best regards,
Stella Oppl
